Tech Tips "Google Analytics"

This past summer I had the opportunity to accept an internship with a pet product distribution company in Indiana. I worked in the marketing department there and while I was there I had the opportunity to work with the tool Google Analytics.

Google Analytics is a tool that can measure all kinds of data from individuals who visit your website. Google Analytics was able to gather geographical information along with demographic information.

One of the most interesting things that I saw while working there was that when someone visited our website I could log on to the program and look up where that person is from, their gender, their age, and what else they searched for on the internet. This is due to websites using cookies to collect data. Anytime you visit a new website there is something collecting your information and storing it to better target advertizements towards you.

Some people are very fearful of this kind of tech but I think it is really cool! People are figuring out ways to only show me the things I want to see and that makes the internet experience so much better.

Week 7 Story "The Boiled Bat"

Bush Rat One day the Bat and the Bush Rat were eating together in a field. They both made soup at their homes and brought it to eat with each other. The Rat asked if he could try the Bats soup and he did. The Rat exclaimed, "Wow! this soup is so good, it tastes so sweet and savory." The Rat asked the bat how in the world he made his soup so good. The Bat, knowing he could pull one over the rat, exclaimed, "You see Rat, I simply boil myself in the broth of the soup before I make it. My flesh sweetens it up." Wolf Link The Wolf Who Saw Authors Note: This story is a retelling of The Indian Who Wrestled With a Ghost from the perspective of a wolf who saw the events in this story take place. The wolf often roamed the forest in search of rabbits or squirrels to quiet his stomach. He often grew weary of the easy hunt. These small feble prey were enough to appease his appetite but never enough to appease his instinct to hunt. The wolf always dreamt of larger prey, something challenging for him to slay. Sometimes he would stumble upon a doe or a wounded boar whose fight was not yet faded.
