Tech Tips "Google Analytics"

This past summer I had the opportunity to accept an internship with a pet product distribution company in Indiana. I worked in the marketing department there and while I was there I had the opportunity to work with the tool Google Analytics. Google Analytics is a tool that can measure all kinds of data from individuals who visit your website. Google Analytics was able to gather geographical information along with demographic information. One of the most interesting things that I saw while working there was that when someone visited our website I could log on to the program and look up where that person is from, their gender, their age, and what else they searched for on the internet. This is due to websites using cookies to collect data. Anytime you visit a new website there is something collecting your information and storing it to better target advertizements towards you. Some people are very fearful of this kind of tech but I think it is really cool! People are figuring out wa...

Week 15 extra credit "The Fox and the Horse"

The Fox and the Horse There once was an old horse who had done all of the work it could have for its master. He had grown too old to make use for himself so his master took him aside and said, "I have no use for you any longer, you are worn out. I will no longer care for you. I am casting you away and the only way you would be able to return is if you come back stronger than a lion" The horse then went out and started moping through the woods. The old horse knew that he could never be as strong as a lion so he made his way looking for what little food and shelter he could find. As the horse was walking along a fox saw him. He saw that the horse was sad so he thought it best to try and fix what was wrong. The fox went up to the horse and asked why he was so sad. The horse replied, "My master has cast me away and told me that I am no good. I am old and weak and he has no use for me any longer. He said the only way I could return was if I proved to be stronger than a...

Extra Reading "The Emperors New Suit"

The Emperors New Suit There once was an emperor who believed that the clothes that he wore were the greatest source of popularity. He held his fashion in the highest regard. This leader didn't care about what he ate, or how he ruled, or anything that didn't pertain to his clothing. This emperor had a different outfit for each hour of the day. Everyone in his kingdom knew that this emperor always wore the most expensive threads. One day two swindlers came into town. They heard all of the townsfolk talk about the emperor and his beautiful clothes so they developed an idea to swindle the emperor out of his fortune. These two swindlers took two looms and started to tell the townsfolk that they were the weavers of the greatest garbs in all of the land. They have sewn for kings and queens all across the land and now they have come to this kingdom to sew for the emperor. The emperor caught wind of this and demanded that they come to sew him the finest clothes at once. These s...

Extra Credit Reading "Sun Wu Kung Gets His Name"

Traditional Chinese Painting One day the Ape King was moving along when he stumbled upon a woodcarver who was singing a melody so divine and so spiritual the Ape King had to go give his praises to the holy person singing. The ape went to the man and started worshiping him. The woodcarver was surprised by this and asked why the ape was acting in such a way. The ape said "The song you sing is so divine you must be of holy descent. The man laughed and said, "I am just a woodcarver, the song I sing was taught to me by a saint." The Ape then asked where he could find such a saint and the woodcarver gave him directions and sent him on his way. The ape went on a journey to find the great saint and when he arrived at the cave the woodcarver described he saw that it was locked. He thought it best not to knock so he hopped in a tree and started eating pinecones. One of the disciples of the priest then came out and asked what was making all of this noise. The Ape then jumped...
