The Coyote and the Snake Reading Notes

The Coyote and the Snake One day the coyote was walking along the trail when he heard a voice say Stop! The coyote looked around and he couldn't see anything. He disregarded the warning and kept moving. Once again he heard someone yell stop. He looked around again and he saw nothing until he heard a voice say "Walk over me, or move out of the way." The coyote looked down and found a snake in the path right below him. The snake said that he has been traveling this trail for years and he would simply not move. The coyote said the same thing and that he would simply not move. The coyote said he would have to keep going if the snake moved or not. The snake made the threat that if the coyote stepped over him the snake would have no choice but to kill him. The coyote didn't believe him and called his bluff. He walked over him and the snake bit the coyote. The coyote didn't feel anything and then mocked the snake. The coyote kept walking on and when he got to the

Reading Notes "Tradition of Finding Horses"

Ponca Tribe The Ponca tribe was traveling along a river one day. They came to a point in the river where they could cross, so they decided to do so. They had never come to this point before so when they crossed it they had no clue what they would see on the other side. Ther crossed the river and saw this new creature that they had never seen before. We know that this was a Comanche Indian on a horse but the Ponca tribe mistook them for one animal. Then the Ponca realized that they had encountered the Comanche tribe. They had had many battles with the Comanche tribe before so this was no different than the previous meets before so they had a great battle then and there. After the battle, the Ponca had won because they were much more advanced in battle techniques than the Comanche. There was one injured Comanche Indian on the ground and before the Ponca tribe killed him he said: "You speak our language, are you a part of our tribe?" The Ponca's responded and said n

Tech Tip: Duck Duck Go

In today's Tech Tip I will be showing you the use of the internet browsing tool "Duck Duck Go." Duck Duck Go is an internet search engine that doesn't track where you search. What this means is that Duck Duck Go doesn't keep track of any demographic information like age, location, or specific market. Some people prefer this kind of service because they feel free from the eyes of advertisers or the government. I personally don't mind if Google or other search engines like Google use my demographic information to sell to advertisers, or even to use for government tracking. I just think that 50 years ago advertizers had almost no way to target their advertisements towards a specific audience and now they can do that in greater ways than ever. I think thats pretty cool, which is why I will continue to use google instead of Duck Duck Go.

Traditional Chinese Painting One day the Ape King was moving along when he stumbled upon a woodcarver who was singing a melody so divine and so spiritual the Ape King had to go give his praises to the holy person singing. The ape went to the man and started worshiping him. The woodcarver was surprised by this and asked why the ape was acting in such a way. The ape said "The song you sing is so divine you must be of holy descent. The man laughed and said, "I am just a woodcarver, the song I sing was taught to me by a saint." The Ape then asked where he could find such a saint and the woodcarver gave him directions and sent him on his way. The ape went on a journey to find the great saint and when he arrived at the cave the woodcarver described he saw that it was locked. He thought it best not to knock so he hopped in a tree and started eating pinecones. One of the disciples of the priest then came out and asked what was making all of this noise. The Ape then jumped

Reading Notes "Why the Possums tail is bare"

Possum Once there was a possum with an extremely beautiful tail. His tail was full of beautiful fur that glistened whenever the light would hit it. This tail was full of different colors of fur which were patterned in the most eye-pleasing way. The possum knew he had a beautiful tail so every chance he had to flaunt it he took. When he was out in public he would make sure to walk in a way that showcased his tail and when he sat down he always made sure to sit in a way so his tail could be seen by all. The pride that the possum had for his tail annoyed the rabbit. The rabbit had his tail torn off by the bear so he held resentment towards the possum. A party with all of the animals was coming up and it was the rabbit's job to spread the news. The rabbit devised a plan to finally put the possum in its place so when the time came the rabbit told the grasshopper who was very good at cutting hair to take care of the possums tail. So when the time came the grasshopper went to th

At the very top of the Mountain of Flowers and Fruits, there was a high rock that stood taller than all of the rest. This rock was mystical due to the power it heald. It would take in energy from all of the life surrounding it and store it within its core. One day when the rock became so packed full of energy that it burst. The Lord of the Heavens

The Lord of the Heavens The Stone ape has been causing trouble throughout the earth. He never had any ill intent but as one can imagine an ape with magic powers who is completely made of stone might cause a few issues. Some of the gods in heaven have received complaints and they had had enough. They journeyed up to the heavens to make a complaint to the Lord of the Heavens. The Lord of the Heavens heard these complaints and began to deliberate what the best course of action to take is. He decided that it would be best to send a God down to earth and take the Stone Ape as a prisoner back to heaven. The Evening Star god came forth and said this ape is a magic and immortal ape, maybe instead of a prisoner we could take him willingly and give him a job here. So as it was told, the Evening Star descended upon earth to find and take the Stone Ape back to heaven. She found him and explained that the Lord wanted the Evening Star to punish the ape but instead, she suggested that she ask

Week 8 Comments and Feedback

Feedback Cat The comments and criticism I have received on my blog posts are very helpful. Up until this blog post I hadn't taken much time to look at the feedback I was getting but now I see that these comments are very helpful. I have gotten feedback on the way I write and how I can improve it as well as feedback on what I am doing well and how I should continue to do that in future work. I feel like the feedback I am giving my classmates is constructive feedback as well. When I read amazing content, instead of saying "That was good!" I'll say "Here is what I loved about ___." I think that this provides constructive feedback in the way that it is specific. They know exactly what I think they are doing well so they can continue to do that in future projects. I am also very interested in reading other people's blogs and storybook projects. For example, this past week i had the opportunity to read one of my classmates Cate's storybook. It was

Week 8 Reading & Writing

This image is one I've used in my previous story "The Boiled Rat" I am having a great time writing the blogs for my Mythology and Folklore class, They have really helped me grind my creative gears together every day. I think writing is a lost cause for the general population today and programs like these where an individual writes this much every week are very beneficial. I think my work in this class has lead to a greater want to write every day. Although it has been tough to get started I love the process of reading a story and then rewriting it to make it my own. One of my favorite times where I took creative liberty was with one of my recent stories. It was a twist on "Why the Bat Flies by Night." With this story, I switched the roles of the antagonist and the protagonist and the story came ended with an entirely different ending. This class is driving creativity and it allows me to think of many different ways a story could go. Another one of my fav

Week 7 Story "The Boiled Bat"

Bush Rat One day the Bat and the Bush Rat were eating together in a field. They both made soup at their homes and brought it to eat with each other. The Rat asked if he could try the Bats soup and he did. The Rat exclaimed, "Wow! this soup is so good, it tastes so sweet and savory." The Rat asked the bat how in the world he made his soup so good. The Bat, knowing he could pull one over the rat, exclaimed, "You see Rat, I simply boil myself in the broth of the soup before I make it. My flesh sweetens it up." The Rat replied, "Wow, how interesting. That is something I will have to try." They both parted ways and went home. On the way home the Rat became upset. You see the rat had already asked the Bats wife how the soup was made but he had forgotten. So when he asked the bat for the recipe so he could remember and he replied with boiling himself in the broth the Rat knew he was lying. He knew that he couldn't forget something that outrageous. S

"Why the Bat Flies By Night" Reading Notes

The Bush Rat Bibliography: This story is part of the Nigeria unit. Story source: Folk Stories From Southern Nigeria by Elphinstone Dayrell (1910). One day the Bush Rat and the Bat and the bat were feeding together. They always fed together, just like they did everything else together. But, one day the bat decided to turn on the Bush Rat. They were both eating soup when the Bush Rat asked the Bat why his soup was always so good. The bat usually prepared his soup beforehand and just took some extra care while making it, but he decided to tell a lie. The bat told the Rat that before he starts cooking the soup he boils himself in the broth. The Bat said that his flesh is so sweet that it flavors the broth. The Rat was convinced that that is how the soup was so good so later that night he went home and told his wife that he would make soup for the family that night. He started making the soup and as soon as his wife turned away he jumped into the pot of boiling water to "fl
